A socialist with the rich mans disease? How embarrassing that must be down the Labour club. SWT

Thankfully never suffered from it but have seen the effects on family members. Bit of a bastard when it flares up.

Re: Gout
Had about 4 attacks, knees, feet and hands and absolutely excruciating.

My guide to gout prevention:

Drink lots of water
Allopurinol- 300ng once daily
Montgomery cherry tablets twice a day and washed down with 2 tablespoons of putrid apple cider vinegar.

This has brought down my Utica acid levels massively and not had an attack for over a year, you’re welcome.

I'm cool with that CT, whatever works for you is better than the pain.

CHL

I know the whole water thing seems obvious. But on the few occasions I've felt an attack coming on, simply drinking more cherry juice has stopped it immediately. I'm obviously not an expert but if you suffer from gout you should be drinking more water and cherry juice. My advice is to take the other supplements I've mentioned as they have completely changed my life.

**Losing weight also helps, along with drinking more water.**

Probably more to do with these two moves...?
Never known anything truly stop it dead bar the light green Etoricoxib.

Apart from trapped in the car following an RTA, it's the worst pain I've experienced. They say childbirth is worse, but women wait a year and want to do it again. I've yet to meet anyone who has had a proper helping of gout and wanted it again.

OneMac: BMI of 26... you should be running through walls mate, not getting gout lol. :-)

Re: Gout
Was getting it quite regularly a few years ago and then started taking a few supplements from Holland and Barrett and haven't had an attack since.

They're Bromelain, Quercetin with vitamin C and celery seed tablets. Take them with either cherry juice or black cherry extract tablets. Not cheap (I bulk buy during their sales) but well worth it.

Losing weight also helps, along with drinking more water.

I am about to turn 71 and have suffered for years.
I was at a funeral ,believe it or not and a mate who's in the fruit business said.
1 freshly squeezed Lemon daily.
I do it and have not suffered for over a year.
Make of it what you will.

Re: Gout
I'm in the same boat with arcoxia , used to be on one a day so had a repeat script every 60 days . Since then got told to reduce to 'as and when' so it's 2/3 a month hence loads left over .

I tend to dole them out at work as they are fantastic with hangovers and general sprains knocks etc.

Re: Gout
I'm prescribed 300mg per day, but they're 3x100mg tablets. After not having an attack for a couple of years, the doc said I should go down to 100mg a day, but they keep furnishing me with 3 times too much, despite me asking them not to. (I get 4 items prescribed every 2 months).
So if anyone's interested, I've probably got about 1000 Allopurinol knocking about.

One McAvennieeeeee 1:03 Thu Dec 28
Re: Gout
Luke - I didn't prescribe them myself? My GP did. Took 100 for 6 weeks then a blood test to see the levels. Anyway that pattern carried on to 200, 300 and 400 which is when he said we'll stick. Never had an attack since. Only annoying thing is it's 2 tablets!

I also have the Arcoxia (Green triangle) things too.

BMI is 26
